Often mentioned as one of the most family-friendly neighborhoods in Queens, Forest Hills is also close to Manhattan and quiet at the same time. If you want to escape the big city without leaving it completely, it’s the right place for you. But since the median age in the central Queens neighborhood is 42, young professionals rarely come here. It’s a more popular destination for families with kids. Great schools and lots of greenery add more value to this friendly place.
However, low rental prices still attract young people to the area. Besides, it also offers great places to go out and spend the weekend.
Going Out
Maybe Forest Hills doesn’t have so many dining options, but its great restaurants and bakeries run for decades. Some of them are Dickie Dee’s Pizza and Eddie’s Sweet Shop. You can also go to Martha’s Country Bakery, Knish Nosh, Ben’s Best Deli, Cheburechnaya, La Boulangerie, Marani, Andre’s Hungarian Bakery, and Aigner Chocolates.
Moving to Forest Hills, you can spend your weekend in more than 500 acres of Forest Park that offers various types of activities for kids and adults. The neighborhood also has lots of trendy stores and small restaurants in Austin Street. More casual brands and antique stores can be found on the Metropolitan Avenue. The residents say that Austin Street is the main street to find everything they want.

There are few high-rises in Forest Hills, new developments, and modern condos are mostly located in its northern part. The neighborhood has lots of Tudor and Georgian style buildings instead. The housing stock is pretty diverse. There are also pre-war co-op buildings, as well as large new houses. Since more and more people move to Forest Hills, modern condos appear on the market.

Transportation
The Forest Hills neighborhood is located only five subway stops from Manhattan on the E line. R and V lines can take you to Midtown, while G head to Brooklyn. The Long Island Railroad is a more expensive than the subway, but you can be at the Penn Station only 15 minutes. If you decide to move to Forest Hills, the commute to Manhattan and other boroughs won’t take too long.
